NBC or DNC? Big Government Biden’s Proposals Just ‘Common Sense’

Because nothing makes more sense than socialism: just ask a Democrat!

Amidst all the Morning Joe gushing today over President Biden’s radical plans as laid out in his address to Congress, the most frighteningly fact-defying was that by NBC contributor and left-wing activist Heather McGhee.

McGhee twice claimed that Biden’s plans are neither left nor right, but simply what is required to solve problems, saying “it takes government,” “it takes collective action,” government needs to “give” people various things, and Biden’s intended vast expansion of government is simply “common sense.”

Here’s a bit of the Democratic spin from McGhee:

I think there’s a sense of being able to breathe a little bit easier for people who — you know, I don’t think of it so much as left or right, but people who want to use the powers that we have as a society together to solve the problems that we have as a society together. And that takes government. It takes collective bargaining to solve the problems on the job, and it takes collective action through government to make sure that the United States of America no longer stands alone near the bottom of our peer countries in investing in the things we have together.

There was an eerie, Orwellian, aura to McGhee’s comments. You almost expected her to echo some of 1984’s paradoxical catchphrases. Instead of “Ignorance Is Strength,” you braced to hear McGhee perhaps claim that “Socialism Is Individual Liberty!”

Note: McGhee predictably weaved into her narrative accusations against conservatives of racism. She claimed that the “right-wing” passes “policies for the wealthy, [while] convincing the majority of white Americans that it’s somehow immigrants and struggling black and brown families’ fault that their jobs are being shipped overseas.”  Huh: immigrants cause jobs to be shipped overseas? To the contrary, low-skilled immigrants are taking jobs away from the very “black and brown families” that McGhee claims to champion!

NBC contributor and left-wing activist Heather McGhee claiming on Morning Joe that there is nothing left-wing about Biden’s big-government proposals was sponsored in part by  Comcast.

WILLIE GEIST:  Heather, I’ve talked to a number of progressives over the last 100 days, especially in the last month or so, and they’ll tell you privately and now for many of them on the record, they’ll tell you publicly that they frankly are surprised at how much they’ve worked with Joe Biden and how much they’ve gotten of their agenda from this president, who it wasn’t so along ago, he was branded as the moderate Democrat in that field of presidential contenders and there were concerns that he wasn’t Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren, and that he couldn’t perhaps carry the mantle of progressivism and that he was maybe a generation too old to understand it.

But my goodness, when you look at the legislation that he’s passed, the legislation that he’s proposing, almost all of it’s in there for progressives.

HEATHER MCGEE: Yeah, it really is. And I think there’s a sense of being able to breathe a little bit easier for people who — you know, I don’t think of it so much as left or right, but people who want to use the powers that we have as a society together to solve the problems that we have as a society together.

And that takes government. It takes collective bargaining to solve the problems on the job, and it takes collective action through government to make sure that the United States of America no longer stands alone near the bottom of our peer countries in investing in the things we have together. Our roads, our bridges, our rural and urban broadband.

The idea that we don’t stand alone anymore in not offering our families the most precious asset we have. Some breathing room through paid family leave and universal health care universal child care as an option for families who are doing what modern economies do, which is to send their most productive two parents into the workforce.

So these are things that frankly we have been behind on. So, it is about progress. It’s no so much about left or right, it’s about going forward. And in my book, “The Sum of Us,” I make the link between our unwillingness for the past 50 years to give Americans the things that we need to have a decent standard of living. The way we sort of turned our backs on the formula that created the greatest middle class that the world had ever seen, largely because of this racial resentment politics.

And here’s where President Biden has really been able to square the circle. He has been able to speak directly, as he has a number of times to the issue of race and racism in a way that doesn’t feed the trolls, right? That doesn’t give the right wing fodder for what they love to do, which is the simple playbook of trying to pass policies for the wealthy, but convincing the majority of white Americans that it’s somehow immigrants and struggling black and brown families’ fault that their jobs are being shipped overseas and that their, you know, property taxes are going up while the wealthy’s taxes keep going down.

It’s that idea that Joe Biden has been able to say, hey, this is common sense. Racism isn’t good for anyone. He actually said explicitly some of the things in my book which I was bowled over by. He said, it’s not a zero sum, it’s not about us versus them. Racial equity is in everyone’s interests. It’s in yhe national interests. We can do this.
