The prestigious Spence School, an all-girls private institution on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is under fire after a concerned parent submitted a blistering letter criticizing the super woke content being imposed on its students.
Gabriela Baron, a first generation Cuban-American and Tech Executive, wrote to the elite K-12 school on June 11 stating “Over the last several years my husband and I have grown increasingly concerned about certain trends at Spence, including what we believe is a de-emphasis of academic rigor and a single-minded focus on race, diversity and inclusion that is now driving the School and everything that goes on within its walls.” The specific instance that triggered her scathing response took place on the final day of school, during her eighth grade daughter’s history class. The students were shown what Baron described as a “blatantly racist video,” that “openly derides, humiliates and ridicules white women.”
The footage shown to the middle school girls was the premiere episode of a series by notoriously race-obsessed comedian Ziwe Fumudoh for Showtime. In it, Fumodoh asked “What percentage of white women do you hate? And there is a right answer.” Ziwe associated this hatred with the statistic she presented afterward, that 55 percent of white women had voted for President Donald Trump in the last election. The episode contained segments with Fran Lebowitz, Gloria Steinem, and various white women named “Karen.” Meant as a derogatory name, Ziwe referred to them with a definition provided by Urbandictionary.com; “obnoxious, angry and entitled, often racist, white women.” Ziwe asks Lebowitz how many black friends she has, at one point as well.
Baron, who is a Spence alum as well as an ex-top trustee member, said “It astounds me that a Spence faculty member felt comfortable showing this to students and thought it was acceptable to do so.” She added that “no explanation was given to the class as to what this was being shown to them” and “It had no connection to any class discussions or learning.” “It appears to have been just a gratuitous display of racist hate speech directed at white women.”
“They sat there in their graduation dresses while the white mothers of the white students – many of whom volunteer, donate, call, email, and do whatever the school asks of them – were tarred and feathered in a video their teacher showed them.”
Baron noted that “had a similar video been shown making fun of ANY OTHER racial group, Spence, its faculty, the Board and the entire community would be whipped into a frenzy,’’ Baron said. “Is Ziwe’s video somehow not racist and acceptable to Spence because it attacks whites?”
A prior incident in which Baron felt compelled to speak out about took place during her then-9-year-old daughter’s art class in which she was required to make politically-oriented protest posters. Clearly, there is a strong trend of woke indoctrination within the school. It is indicative of the larger widespread issue at the heart of these elite learning institutions. Parents will pay Spence School over $57,000 in tuition per year just for their children to be imbued with pernicious and radically progressive ideologies.
With great disappointment, Baron removed her daughter from the school. Megyn Kelly shared her letter on Twitter with the caption “(Another) Spence parent pulls her kid after grossly racist episode attacking white women is forced on girls in class on last day of school. We just left this school bc of its growing far-left indoctrination. This is a place we’ve loved-breaks my heart they’re doing this.” Baron concluded her letter by demanding that Spence “do better than this” and that an apology be given to the family of every student in that class. “Racism is racism,” she ended.
